NICE reports – Anne Koning
21 May 2024Recently, we had the honor of welcoming provincial executive Anne Koning to SAWA Rotterdam. Anne Koning, responsible for Housing, Spatial Planning, Recreation, Tourism, and Sports for the Province of South Holland, visited the SAWA construction site. She was accompanied by Irma Kenter, Director of Accessibility & Housing for the Province. During the visit, Robert and Mark, along with head foreman René, provided a tour of the construction site. They explained and demonstrated how timber construction can be successfully applied in large and tall buildings. This is no longer a future vision, but a reality that is both technically and financially feasible.
In this new episode of NICE Reports, Mark and Anne Koning discuss the working visit. They emphasize why biobased construction offers a solution for the current housing challenge and how the Province of South Holland actively promotes this biobased construction for a healthy future.

“We learn from projects like SAWA. If we want to build the homes of the future, it starts with the projects currently on the drawing boards. As South Holland, we want timber construction to be easier, feasible, and affordable, and we are keen to assist with that. This is how we collectively build a strong South Holland.”
Provincial Executive for the Province of South Holland, Anne Koning
About NICE Reports
In NICE Reports, our 'NICE guys,' Mark and Robert, go out as reporters to interview professionals and experts on specific themes including timber construction, circularity, and (nature) inclusivity. They ask concise, targeted questions about how these experts, these 'NICE people,' view the respective topic: what their stance is, what they themselves contribute, and how they perceive the current market situation and future.
