NICE reports - Citizen Consultation
July 04, 2024We recently welcomed 40 members of the Citizens' Climate Council at SAWA. Mark and Robert presented them with the concept of SAWA, gave a tour of the construction site and engaged in conversation with the members. For many, SAWA proved to be an inspiring example of how future building projects in Rotterdam should be designed. Robert spoke with some of the members on camera and asked them what they thought of SAWA. In particular, the use of wood construction and SAWA's impact on CO2-reduction were appreciated. In addition, they were very enthusiastic about the socially inclusive aspect of SAWA and how the building contributes to greater social cohesion in the neighborhood.

About the Citizens' Climate Council
By 2030, our streets and neighborhoods must be greener and healthier for all Rotterdammers. The City of Rotterdam is working hard to achieve this, but there is still much to be done. That is why they are looking for creative ideas and solutions from Rotterdammers and why the City of Rotterdam has appointed the Citizens' Climate Council. The Citizens' Council consists of 117 different Rotterdam citizens. Young and old, from all kinds of neighborhoods and with different backgrounds. They contribute their own experiences as city residents and advise the municipality on ways to achieve the climate goals.
In six meetings (from April to September) the citizens' council meets to gain knowledge about the climate and come up with solutions together for a greener and healthier city.
About NICE Reports
In NICE Reports, our NICE guys, Mark and Robert, go out as reporters to interview professionals and experts on specific topics around timber construction, circularity and (nature) inclusivity, among others. They ask concise, targeted questions about how these experts, these "NICE people," view the topic at hand: what their point of view is, what they themselves contribute to it and how they see the current market situation and future.
