Manifesto: Building within the limits of our planet
Sept. 25, 2022We must "build within the limits of our planet," reads the Manifesto 2.0 recently published by Gideon - building transition tribes and DGBC. That the building sector must contribute to limiting further climate change is something Nice Developers agrees with. Every day, with developments such as the wooden residential building SAWA, we work towards a better neighborhood. Projects that contribute to people and nature. This is why we signed the first Manifesto for ''a level playing field for a more sustainable Netherlands''back in December 2020.By signing this Manifesto we underline the need for three things: introduction of an additional MPG-indicator, setting a carbon budget for construction, and improving the environmental performance system.

As a construction industry, as the Netherlands and as a world, we currently face major challenges. On the one hand, we want to continue to meet the growing need for housing and social functions. On the other hand, we want to leave behind a healthy, safe world for ourselves and the generations to come.
With the current way of building, those two desires conflict. A future-proof construction industry must build, transform and renovate within the ecological limits of the planet. That means significantly lower CO2-emissions, less use of materials and less environmental pollution - aspects that are high on Mei's projects. This requires effort not only from frontrunners, but from the entire industry. From policy makers and clients to architects, construction and installation companies and suppliers.
With many initiatives, the construction sector is showing that it is ready for change. Developments in making construction more sustainable can and must accelerate if we, as the construction sector, want to make a serious contribution to a safe and healthy world. Therefore, we call on the central government - responsible politicians and officials - to take its responsibility. So that all parties in the construction chain can continue to do their work. But in a future-proof way, within the limits of our planet.
