NEPROM New Gen Spring Event at SAWA

The Spring Event of the NEPROM New Generation - representing young real estate professionals within NEPROM - on March 15 was all about (residential) construction in wood.

Timber construction is seen as an important part of the solution to have a 100 percent circular economy by 2050 and CO₂-emissions in line with the Paris Proof agreements. But when is wood construction marketing and when is it truly sustainable? And what does it take to develop projects in wood? With these questions and with as many as 45 interested people, the New Gen visited the still under construction but already multiple award-winning 'healthiest building in the Netherlands'. SAWA.

The new generation of real estate professionals were taken through the challenging process Nice and ERA have gone through so far to make SAWA a reality. They learned that the area of tension with building in wood at the moment is the high cost of materials, CO₂-rights that cannot yet always be incorporated into the GREX and that building in wood is not yet known to all (regulatory and certifying parties). Opportunities exist in capitalizing on low (green) loans, selling CO²-rights and appealing to the right audience (both private and housing associations and investors).
