SAWA: A Circular Exemplary Project of The New Normal
February 19, 2023SAWA is one of the circular exemplary projects that has been evaluated against the criteria of The New Normal (HNN). Cirkelstad recently visited Nice Place and the SAWA mock-up. Jaap van Deurzen extensively interviewed Mark and Robert about SAWA, Nice's ambitions, the technical innovations, and the future of SAWA's circular concept. Cirkelstad South Holland Guideline: 'Demonstrating the Feasibility of Circular Construction'
On Friday, February 10 – during the Circular Economy Week – Cirkelstad South Holland presented the guideline for The New Normal (HNN) to the provincial executive members of South Holland. With HNN, we are working towards a clear language and a new 'standard' in circular construction.
From September to November 2022, Cirkelstad Zuid-Holland, together with Alba Concepts, Stichting iCircl, Start met 8, and the province of South Holland, organized a program for various clients and contractors around The New Normal. The participants were Inbo, De Groene Jongens, the province of South Holland, Wooncompas, HA-HA Design & Development, BIK Bouw, ASVZ, BM van Houwelingen, Van der Hulst Bouwbedrijf, Havensteder, Nice Developers, mei architects and planners, RoosRos Architecten, and Urban Climate Architects.
As part of this program, a digital guideline has been developed, including lessons learned from this program, circular exemplary projects, and practical tools to implement circular construction oneself. The projects were evaluated based on environmental impact, residual material management, disassemblability, and material use, among other factors. The guideline provides a clear insight into how circular construction has been implemented in practice in these projects.
“We face an enormous construction challenge. And we aim to be future-proof. What I would very much like to see is circular construction being recognized as a solution for this construction challenge. Industrial, modular, and biobased construction can theoretically lead to rapid, smart, affordable, and scalable building. These examples demonstrate that its realization in practice is becoming increasingly successful.”
Provincial Executive Member for Housing, Province of South Holland, Anne Koning
