SAWA as a Practical Example at COP26 in Glasgow
November 11, 2021This week, Climate Cleanup, ASN Bank, and Gideon will present the 'Construction Stored Carbon' report to the Dutch Climate Envoy Jaime de Bourbon de Parme at COP26 in Glasgow. In this report, SAWA is used as a practical example to demonstrate how biobased construction positively contributes to climate goals.
SAWA is constructed entirely – including its main load-bearing structure – from CLT, thereby storing 2,085,674 kg of CO2 2. This amount corresponds, for example, to the emissions from driving 17,675,203 kilometers by car or the electricity consumption of 2,317 households in the Netherlands in one year.
SAWA thus demonstrates that building with wood and other natural materials results in lower CO22 emissions than conventional materials and CO2.2-term storage. Building with wood is therefore a practical and concrete solution in the transition to a fossil-free, clean construction sector and economy! #SAWAisthefuture
