Volkskrant: SAWA gives something back to the city
May 26, 2022A recent article in the Volkskrant zooms in on high-rise buildings in Rotterdam.
With the completion of the Zalmhavenentoren (215 meters, the tallest building in the Netherlands) the question arises how to proceed with 'Manhattan on the Maas'. The towers in Rotterdam are becoming more numerous and even higher. What will that do to the living environment?
Kirsten Hannema interviews Robert Winkel, among others, in this article:
Rotterdam must choose. Do we keep looking at Manhattan, where they are going after Dubai, with ever higher and crazier towers? Those buildings give nothing back to the city; they just stand jauntily.
Giving something back to the city; that is what we are doing with SAWA. SAWA is not just for the 'lucky few', but thanks to the combination of medium rental, private sector and owner-occupied housing available to different income groups. Not an anonymous tower, but a building where everyone lives and shares together.
