Volkskrant: SAWA Gives Back to the City
May 26, 2022
A recent article in de Volkskrant focuses on high-rise development in Rotterdam.
With the completion of the Zalmhaventoren (215 meters, the tallest building in the Netherlands), the question arises as to the future of 'Manhattan on the Maas'. The towers in Rotterdam are becoming more numerous and even taller. What impact does this have on the living environment?
In this article, Kirsten Hannema interviews, among others, Robert Winkel:
Rotterdam must choose. Do we continue to look to Manhattan, where they are chasing Dubai with increasingly taller and more extravagant towers? These buildings give nothing back to the city; they merely stand ostentatiously.
Giving back to the city; that is what we achieve with SAWA. SAWA is not exclusively for the 'lucky few', but thanks to the combination of mid-segment rental, free-sector, and owner-occupied homes, it is accessible to various income groups. Not an anonymous tower, but a building where everyone lives and shares together.
