Campaign launch: the answer is NICE

Feb. 29, 2024

How do we build a better future?
The answer is NICE

NICE Developers, driven by an urgent call to contribute to the housing task as well as contribute to a better climate, proudly launches their new campaign, and at the same time different approach. How to do it better? The answer is NICE! With the introduction of the NICE Concept, the team is working on what they see too little in their sector: taking responsibility for a better future through innovation in construction.

Behind NICE Developers are development architect Robert Winkel and developer Mark Compeer. With the ambition to radically change the world of construction and development, they are not deterred by the status quo. This is reflected in the powerful campaign image: a wooden lede hand with a middle finger raised at the lack of innovation and the continued use of traditional concrete - with its high emissions of CO2 as a result. Building with wood and other biobased materials reduces CO2 stored instead of emitted. With a firm but outstretched wooden hand, NICE wants to wake up the building sector, because there are alternatives. It must and can be done better!

Answering the questions of governments, corporations and investors who want to build a better future

With support from progressive investor and development investor Focus on Impact, NICE Developers is independently committed to change and developed the NICE Concept. With the goal of CO2-emissions, contribute to more biodiversity, create accessible housing for all income groups and combat loneliness. These are all social issues of the present and the future. The NICE Concept is an answer to the pressing question of governments, housing corporations and property owners: how can we add (affordable) housing and contribute to a better climate?

Five essential features of the NICE Concept:

  1. Climate Friendly

Thanks to wood construction and the use of biobased and recycled materials, NICE Buildings have a lower footprint and save CO2 instead of emitting. In doing so, the NICE Buildings make a positive contribution to the climate.

  1. Socially inclusive

By uniting diverse income groups in a mix of affordable housing in the social and middle rental segment and free-sector housing, NICE contributes to a socially inclusive society. In addition to the housing offer, the emphasis is on community facilities to encourage encounters between residents and local residents, contributing to mutual responsibility and the prevention of loneliness.

  1. Biodiversity promoting

By developing green buildings, we contribute to improving biodiversity. By incorporating abundant and appropriately selected plants and nesting boxes into the building, NICE Buildings provide safe shelter and food for insects and birds.

  1. Future-proof and circular

The NICE Concept is based on the principle of "open construction": a flexible system of columns and beams, creating maximum freedom of layout and making the buildings adaptable in the future. Moreover, the concept is circular: the buildings are demountable, allowing the materials to be reused in the long term.

  1. Feasible and fast

Building in wood offers opportunities for a fundamental change in the development and construction chain, allowing the NICE Concept to be faster and competitive with traditional (concrete) construction. This effectiveness is supported by four key aspects:
- acquired knowledge and experience and a proven timber construction concept;
- chain integration between architect, developer, builder and timber supplier for
efficiency and cost savings;
- focus on social added value rather than profit maximization;
- careful incorporation and active involvement of the neighborhood, making NICE Buildings a valuable and sustainable asset for the environment.

SAWA render

With the project SAWA - which NICE is developing in collaboration with ERA Contour and which is currently under construction in Rotterdam - they show that building better for people and climate is possible. The revolutionary wooden residential building saves CO2 up, is circular, contributes to biodiversity and consists of almost half of middle rental housing.

In addition to SAWA, NICE is currently working on more projects across the country. For example, in Eindhoven, NICE is working on a wood building development as part of the area development Sectie C; in Rotterdam, NICE is working on a feasibility study for a prominent location in the city, commissioned by a real estate owner; and at various locations, NICE is working for different housing associations on wood building projects, which will add accessible housing to the existing stock in a sustainable and responsible way.

With the NICE Concept, NICE proves that sustainable, circular wooden high-rise buildings are good, beautiful, and feasible. NICE Developers invites governments, corporations, and investors to build a sustainable future together.

Choosing the NICE Concept means: choosing a better future.

Together we are stronger. Together we build the future.
